Brightlands was formed by four innovation campuses in Limburg, Netherlands. The Brightlands campi bring together researchers, entrepreneurs, and students to establish and create international breakthroughs together in chemistry and materials, health, agrifood, data science and smart digital services.
The Brightlands Talent International Scholarships program offers four full coverage scholarships which include a tuition fee waiver and monthly stipend per academic year for a selected number of top-performing non-EU/EEA students with personal development potential that have been conditionally admitted to a master program connected to the Brightlands campi.
A compulsory component of the Brightlands Talent Scholarship is participating in the thesis-internship-program (TIP) which require scholarship candidates to write their thesis based on an internship at one of the firms at the respective Brightlands campus.
Maastricht University is a public research university in Maastricht, Netherlands. It was established in 1976 and it is the second youngest of the thirteen Dutch universities. In 2020, 21,085 students studied at the university, 55% of whom were foreign students, with more than 4,000 employees.
The university has three honors liberal arts colleges: University College Maastricht and the Maastricht Science Program in the same liberal arts tradition. The satellite University College Venlo opened in 2015. Maastricht University often rates as one of Europe’s leading universities.

Eligibility for Brightlands Talent International Scholarships
- To be qualified for Brightlands Talent International Scholarships, you must hold the nationality of a country outside the EU/EEA and Switzerland and meet the requirements for acquiring an entry visa and residence permit for the Netherlands.
- Each candidate must have never participated in a degree-seeking higher education program in the Netherlands. However, scholars who have completed exchange program in the Netherlands are welcome to apply for Brightlands Talent International Scholarships.
- Applicants must not hold a double nationality from an EU/EEA country or Switzerland or be eligible for the scholarship.
- You must not be older than 35 years of age on 1 September 2022 to be qualified for the scholarship.
- All candidate must have been conditionally admitted to the participating master program at the university for the 2022/2023 academic year.
- Candidate must have also agree to become an active Brightlands and UM ambassador during and after his/her studies, by committing to share his/her experiences during at least one (information) session for students and/or other stakeholders.
