Chinese University Scholarship Program is a full scholarship funded by the Ministry of Education, P.R.C to support appointed Chinese universities to enroll exceptional international students for graduate studies in China.
Tianjin University (TJU) the firstÂ-class university in China, has been appointed to undertake this program for more than ten years since 2008. The university is the first modern institution of higher education to be founded in China- and is now a national university under the direct administration of the Ministry of Education of China, one of the national Class A, Double First-Class Universities identified by the Ministry of Education.
The university was founded in 1895 as Imperial Tientsin University and later Peiyang University (or Beiyang). However, after restructuring in 1951, it was renamed Tianjin University, and became one of the largest multidisciplinary engineering universities in China, and one of the first 16 national key universities approved by the nation in 1959.
Tianjin University is now among the first group of institutions of higher learning to be included in the national “Double First Class University Plan” and former ministerial “Project 211” and “Project 985” by which it is given priority in construction.
In order to execute the 21st Century Education Revitalizing Action Plan in late 2000, the Ministry of Education and Tianjin Municipality signed an agreement with the intention to build Tianjin University into a world-class university for the 21st century, which include establishing the Excellence League.

The University has signed MoU with India’s University of Mumbai, and Malaysia’s Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. Tianjin University also cooperated with University of South Australia to build China-Australia Centre for Sustainable Urban Development at October 27, 2012.

Eligibility for Chinese University Scholarship Program
- To be qualified for Chinese University Scholarship Program, you must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport. For candidates who used to be Chinese citizens but later immigrated to other countries, the conditions established by the Document No. 12 (2020) of Ministry of Education of the People’s Republic of China should be met.
- Each candidate applying for a Master degree should hold a Bachelor diploma and be under the age of 35.
- You must also be applying for a PhD degree and should hold a Master diploma and be under the age of 40.
- Each candidate must be of good moral character, physically and mentally healthy, and willing to comply with Chinese laws and the regulations of Tianjin University to be qualified for the scholarship.
