ESL Graduate Bursary at University of Saskatchewan in Canada 2021

The University of Saskatchewan is providing the ESL Graduate Bursary for foreign candidates in Canada.

The objective of the ESL Graduate bursary is to support scholars who have to be enrolled as a full-time foreign graduate candidate in good standing at the University of Saskatchewan in a degree program to obtain the bursary.

The University of Saskatchewan (U of S) is a Canadian state-owned research university, established in 1907, and situated on the eastern area of the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.

ESL Graduate Bursary Description:

  • Application Closing Date: First Monday in March.
  • Course Level: award is obtainable for Graduate candidates.
  • Study Subject: ESL bursaries will be obtainable for the following programs:
    • Academic Writing
    • Advanced Spoken English
    • Graduate Writing
    • Pronunciation
  • Award: Varies based on classes
  • Nationality: Foreign candidates are qualified to apply for the bursary
  • Number of Awards: Varies
  • The award can be taken in Canada

Eligibility for ESL Graduate Bursary at University of Saskatchewan

  • Eligible Nations: Foreign candidates are qualified to apply for the bursary
  • Entrance Criteria: Candidates must be graduate students
  • The ESL Bursary for International Students is a aid program for foreign graduate candidates who would like to build up their English language skills by taking a course provided through The Language Centre.

Note: ESL Graduate Bursary at University of Saskatchewan are not planned to be utilized by candidates who have been granted admission conditionally and have to satisfy a language requirement, or who have taken any of the Graduate Pathways Certificate Program courses (EAP 40/EAP 50/EAP 60). Also, these bursaries will not be granted to candidates who were granted exemption from the language conditions upon admission to the university.

ESL bursaries will be obtainable for the following programs:

  1. Academic Writing
  2. Advanced Spoken English
  3. Graduate Writing
  4. Pronunciation

There are two eligibility conditions used in granting a candidate an ESL Graduate Bursary

  1. You are required to have fulfilled the minimum English proficiency criteria at the University of Saskatchewan.
  2. Your graduate advisor or Graduate Chair has to recommend that you take an ESL class.

There are a limited amount of bursaries obtainable for candidates. If there are more qualified candidates than the number of bursaries obtainable, precedence will be afforded to Ph. D. candidates and to those candidates who have not obtained a bursary in a past term.

How to Apply for ESL Graduate Bursary at University of Saskatchewan

  • Download and fill out Sections I-IV of the application form.
  • All four pages of the application have to be submitted together by the closing date for Graduate Awards & Scholarships. It can be sent to their office or emailed to them using the details given below.

The candidate’s supervisor or Graduate Chair has to fill out the  Recommendation by Applicant’s Supervisor or Graduate Chair form, which the candidate attaches to their application prior to submitting.

Unfinished applications will not be given consideration for the competition.

Candidates who obtain an ESL Bursary will be required to:

  • Make a payment of a non-refundable admin fee of $25.00 to The Language Centre.
  • Sit for a short placement test at The Language Centre to make sure you are placed in the suitable level and class.
  • Sustain full-time enrolment in your graduate program at the University of Saskatchewan all through the period of the ESL class.
  • Go to the ESL class consistently and do all assignments.

The ESL Bursary will only be obtainable to the candidate throughout the term that they applied and cannot be extended into another term. They will have to re-apply for another bursary by one of the application closing dates.
