Queen’s University Belfast, officially The Queen’s University of Belfast is a public research university located in Belfast, Northern Ireland, United Kingdom. The university received its charter in 1845 as Queen’s College, Belfast, and opened four years later.

The university offers academic degrees at various levels, with approximately 300-degree programs available. The current president and vice-chancellor are Ian Greer. The university’s annual income for 2020–21 was £395.8 million of which £88.6 million was from research grants and contracts, with an expenditure of £373.5 million.

Queen’s University Belfast is a member of the Russell Group of research-intensive universities, the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, Universities UK, and Universities Ireland. The university is affiliated with two Nobel laureates and one Turing Award laureate.

The university’s history can be traced to the Belfast Academical Institution, which was established in 1810 and remains as the Royal Belfast Academical Institution. However, the present university was first chartered as Queen’s College, Belfast in 1845, when it was associated with the simultaneously founded Queen’s College, Cork, and Queen’s College, Galway, as part of the Queen’s University of Ireland – founded to urge higher education for Catholics and Presbyterians, as a counterpart to Trinity College, Dublin, then an almost exclusively Anglican institution.

Moreover, Queen’s College, Belfast, opened in 1849. It’s main building, the Lanyon Building, was designed by the English-born architect, Sir Charles Lanyon. At its opening, it had 23 professors and 195 students. Some early students at Queen’s University Belfast took the University of London examinations.

The Irish Universities Act, 1908 dissolved the Royal University of Ireland, which had changed the Queen’s University of Ireland in 1879, and formed two separate universities: the current National University of Ireland and Queen’s University of Belfast.

In addition to the main campus on the southern fringes of Belfast city center, the Queen’s University Belfast has two associated university colleges, St Mary’s and Stranmillis based in the west and south-west of the city respectively. These colleges offer teacher training for those who wish to pursue teaching careers and a range of degree courses, all of which are centered around a liberal arts core.

Furthermore, while the university refers to its main site as a campus, the university’s buildings are spread over several public streets in South Belfast, mainly, University Road, University Square, University Street, Malone Road, and Stranmillis Road, with other departments situated further afield such as in Titanic Quarter and Portaferry.

• The Queens University Belfast Family Scholarship is offered to International applicants to a full-time undergraduate program at the University.
• Each candidate applying for Family Scholarship 2022 should be children, spouses, or sibling of current students or Queen’s University Belfast alumni.
• To be qualified for the scholarship, you should be enrolling in an undergraduate program full-time at the University.
• You should have an offer of a place from the University in a full-time program.
• Candidates are expected to meet any academic and language conditions attached to their offer to be qualified.
• Applicants studying on a part-time basis or foundation degrees or distance learning programs are not eligible.
• Candidates paying NI/GB/EU fees are not qualified.
• Applicants applying for Family Scholarship are not required to submit a separate application for the scholarship.
• The Queens University Belfast Family Scholarship will be given automatically to students who are qualified.
