Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarships in Germany 2020

The Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarships for the promotion of foreigners is aimed at foreign students and doctoral candidates who have already successfully completed their studies in their home country and complete a further study (postgraduate program / Master), a doctorate or at least a two-semester research stay at a German university.

Every year, new focus nations or regions are determined in the selection processes. In 2020 the focus areas will be Southeast Asia, Central Europe, Near East, and Western Africa.  Candidates living in nations that are not listed cannot apply for the international selection process in 2020.

Scholarship value/inclusions:

The length and level of funding differ for different types of programs. Graduates (master or postgraduate candidates) obtain a monthly scholarship award of €850. The standard funding period is two years. After having gotten unconditional admission to doctoral programs at a German university, Ph.D. candidates obtain a monthly scholarship award of €1.200. The standard funding duration for Ph.D. candidates is three years. Research stays in Germany are also funded for a minimum of three semesters.  Furthermore, Ph.D. candidates can apply for financial aid for research stays overseas.

Fees ensuing from courses at the university in Germany that are directly linked to your program can be reimbursed up to the amount of € 1.500 each semester. Upon request, health care insurance, family allowance, and children’s allowance can also be subsidized.

Eligibility for Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarships in Germany

They should:

  • possess a university degree, as we do not offer support for bachelor programs,
  • prove above-average academic performance,
  • be no older than 30 when applying,
  • possess a good understanding of the German language (B2-level),
  • be actively engaged in voluntary work,
  • have the intention to enroll in a minimum of three semesters at a university in Germany,
  • have a wide general education and distinct interest in political matters,
  • possess a positive disposition towards democracy and human rights,
  • be open to growing their personal points of view and practice open-mindedness,
  • be highly motivated and able to convince us of their goals in life.

How to Apply for Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung Scholarships in Germany

There are two ways of applying: On the one hand, you have the opportunity to apply for a scholarship from the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung abroad at the respective foreign office where there are planned selection conferences. For 2020, they are held in Budapest, Seoul, Amman, and a capital city in a West African country (yet to be determined). If you are residing in a nation or region close to these cities, you may forward your written application straight to the responsible KAS office – please peruse their websites for the precise procedure and addressee. The deadlines can be found on the local websites of the KAS offices and are independently set.

Alternatively, if you are already in Germany, you can submit an application online directly to the Foundation prior to 15 July (12:00) of the respective year.
