Flinders University PhD Scholarship in Machine Learning in Computer Vision in Australia for 2022/2023

Flinders University is awarding a PhD Scholarship in Machine Learning to students. 

The Flinders University PhD Scholarship will produce machine learning and deep learning techniques in processing, segmenting, identifying, and analyzing 2D and 3D x-ray images for baggage inspection in the airport. The Flinders University PhD scholarship includes an industry internship of at least 60 full-time equivalent days.

Applicants with a relevant background in Computer vision, Image processing, image analysis, Computer Science, ICT and Engineering, Mathematics, and Statistics are invited to apply. Display working knowledge of Computer Vision and Machine Learning in images is important.

However, good programming skills in Matlab or python are also important. Previous research experience with CT images is helpful. Perfectly, the successful applicant should have journal publications and/or conference presentation experience.

The successful applicant will work under the supervision of Dr. Gobert Lee https://www.flinders.edu.au/people/gobert.lee and Dr. Mariusz Bajger and will cooperate with academic and industrial collaborators. The Flinders University PhD Scholarship in Machine Learning is looking for self-motivated students. The successful applicant must be able to work independently as well as a member of a team. The successful applicant must also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills toward staff, students, and collaborators.

Flinders University is a public research university located in Adelaide, South Australia. Established in 1966, the university was named in honor of British navigator Matthew Flinders, who explored and surveyed the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.

The university is a prolific university and a member of the Innovative Research Universities (IRU) Group. Academically, Flinders University pioneered a cross-disciplinary approach to education, and the university’s faculties of medicine and the humanities have been rated among the nation’s top 10.

However, the 2021 Times Higher Education ranking of the world’s top universities ranks Flinders University in the 251 – 300th bracket. The university’s main campus is in the Adelaide inner southern suburb of Bedford Park, about 12 km south of the Adelaide city center.

Flinders University also has a presence in Victoria Square in the center of the city, and Tonsley. The university also maintains several external teaching facilities in regional South Australia, southwest Victoria, and the Northern Territory. As of 2020, international students made up 19.5% of the on-campus student population, and several offshore programs are also offered, primarily in the Asia-Pacific region.

Benefits

The Flinders University PhD Scholarship covers a stipend valued at $28,854 per year (indexed annually) with the possibility of a 6-month extension and an industry internship of at least 60 full-time equivalent days.

  • To be qualified for the Flinders University PhD Scholarship, you must be an Australian and International student.
  • Applicants must meet the Flinders University PhD admission requirements to be qualified.
  • Each candidate must be available to start as a full-time PhD student at Flinders University before June 2022 (subject to negotiation).
