The American Psychological Foundation is an American philanthropic organization committing to awarding research grants to analyst in the early stages of their careers. It is associated with the American Psychological Association.

The American Psychological Foundation was founded in 1953 by six psychologists, originally with a budget of $580. One of its founders was Joseph McVicker Hunt, who went on to serve as its first president.

Other past presidents of the foundation include Dorothy Cantor, who supervise the inauguration of two major fundraising campaigns: the Campaign for a New Era in 2000, and the Campaign to Change the Future in 2012. Dorothy Cantor was replaced by Terence M. Keane in 2017.

The American Psychological Foundation has task forces that issue policy statements on different matters of social importance, including abortion, human trafficking, human rights, the welfare of detainees, the rights of the mentally ill, IQ testing, sexual orientation change efforts, and gender equality.

The foundation is the largest scientific and professional organization of psychologists in the United States, with more than 122,000 members which includes scientists, educators, clinicians, consultants, and students.

It also has 54 divisions—interest groups for different subspecialties of psychology or topical areas. The foundation has an annual budget of around $115m.

During World War II, the foundation joined other psychological organizations, resulting in a new divisional structure. Nineteen divisions were accredited in 1944; the divisions with the most members were the clinical and personnel (now counseling) divisions.

However, from 1960 to 2007, the number of divisions increased to 54. Currently, the APA is associated with 60 state, territorial, and Canadian provincial associations. Arthur Evans, Jr., PhD, created the Queen and Nellie Evans Fund in honor of his grandmother and mother.

Arthur Evans, a clinical and community psychologist and healthcare innovator, serves as the present CEO and executive vice president of the American Psychological Association. He has done wonderful work to enable historically marginalized individuals and communities through his work as the commissioner of Philadelphia’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disability Services.

He has also been honored for his work both internationally and nationally. The American Psychological Foundation has been able to financially support graduate students who are dedicated to improving the conditions of marginalized communities.
