The Rhodes Scholarships are postgraduate scholarships assisting brilliant all-round candidates at the University of Oxford. Created in the will of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, the Rhodes is the oldest and maybe the most esteemed international scholarship award program globally.

Scholarship value/inclusions/duration:

A Rhodes scholarship award provides All University and College costs; the University application fee; a living allowance (£15,144 per the year 2018-19); one economy class flight ticket to Oxford at the commencement of the scholarship award and one economy flight ticket back to the candidate’s home country at the end of the scholarship.

The basic length of the scholarship award is two years, contingent always, and at all times, on satisfactory academic record and personal demeanor.

Eligibility for Rhodes Scholarships at Oxford University

The following eligibility conditions apply to all candidates for the Rhodes Scholarship awards:

  • Citizenship & residency: All candidates have to fulfill the citizenship and residency prerequisites of the Rhodes constituency for which they are submitting an application.  Please check the comprehensive details carefully through the country links.
  • Age: Age limits differ between constituencies and vary from a minimum age limit of 18 to a maximum of 28 by 1 October of the year after selection. Successful applicants will arrive in Oxford the October after the selection procedure.  The Scholarship may not normally be deferred.
  • Education: All candidates should have attained academic standing satisfactorily advanced to guarantee completion of a bachelor’s degree program by the October after selection. Academic standing has to be satisfactorily high to guarantee admission to the University of Oxford, which has highly competitive entry criteria, and to give assurance that Rhodes Scholars will meet up to a high academic standard in Oxford. Individual constituencies may specify a 1st or equivalent.  Some constituencies require an undergraduate degree to have been taken within the constituency of application.

How to Apply for Rhodes Scholarships at Oxford University

Applications for Rhodes Scholarship awards become available during the spring and summer of the previous year. Closing dates vary per country but is usually around July-October of the previous year you wish to study.
