The Victoria University of Wellington is making known the Tongarewa Scholarship award to applaud the University’s dedication to its foreign student population. Eligible candidates are those either starting their first year of an undergraduate program or starting a postgraduate program at Victoria University of Wellington. Beneficiaries are required to function as Ambassadors for Victoria University of Wellington and take part in relevant events or marketing if needed.

Tongarewa Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington value/inclusions:
The scholarships range from NZ$5,000 to NZ$10,000. This is a partial fee-based award that will be remitted towards your tuition fees for one year of study. Scholarship awards are granted competitively based on academic excellence. They will be applied to study in the year following application and will be paid to tuition fees.
Beneficiaries of the Scholarship award are assured an offer of a place in the Halls of Residence, given that an accommodation application is gotten by the Accommodation Service by the required closing date.
Eligibility for Tongarewa Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
Candidates have to be new foreign students who are paying full international fees and are either starting their first year of an undergraduate program or entering a postgraduate program. They must have obtained an offer of a place from Victoria University of Wellington (conditional or unconditional).
You are not qualified for this scholarship award if you:
- Had your secondary school at a New Zealand school
- Finished a prerequisite program at Victoria University of Wellington (i.e. the English Proficiency Program or Foundation Studies Program)
- Are a Study Abroad or Twinning candidate from one of the abroad partner universities
- Are in your second year of enrollment at Victoria University of Wellington.
How to Apply for Tongarewa Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington
The scholarship award application closing date is 1 June 2020 for Trimester 2 2020 start, 1 September 2020 for Trimester 3 2020 start and 30 November 2020 for Trimester 1 2021 start. Applications will typically open around 1 month before the deadline. You have to present a personal statement of up to 500 words detailing why you wish to study at Victoria University of Wellington, your academic ambitions, and why you deserve the Scholarship. You must also include any leadership roles and particulars of your involvement in your school or community.
