The University of Glasgow is pleased to announce the availability of scholarships for Master Degree in Tourism Development & Culture. The Erasmus Mundus opportunities are available for well-eligible International Students.

The University of Glasgow is the leading partner in the association of universities that have developed this joint Master program. The European Union’s Erasmus Mundus program aims to improve quality in higher education through scholarships and academic co-operation between the EU and the rest of the world.

However, the three main objectives of the program are linked to the internationalization of students, staff, curricula and research; to ensure an influence on the development of practice in SEN and inclusive education; and to improve international combined networks, projects and research Erasmus Mundus supports Joint Program (Masters Courses and Joint Doctorates) that are operated by association of higher education institutions from the EU and (since 2009) anywhere in the world.

The University of Glasgow provide an integrated course and joint or several diplomas following study or research at two or more higher education institutions Erasmus Mundus funds a number of scholarships for scholars and academics studying or teaching on Erasmus Mundus Masters Courses.

Since 2010, fellowships have also been available for doctoral candidates with one of the Joint doctorates. Scholarships cover subsistence costs, participation costs, and insurance for the duration of the study period.

A partnership usually has a literal dimension and is based on some formal agreement and close cooperation between two or more parties like higher education institutions and may involve businesses, non-profit organizations or non-governmental organizations. Partners have certain rights and responsibilities. An alliance, often described as an ‘authentic partnership’ exists where people are able to point out their common interests and work together with others especially in a logical endeavor.

Worth of Tourism Development and Culture Scholarships for International Students

  • The scholarship covers a contribution to your participation costs including tuition fees, full insurance coverage and any other compulsory costs related to your participation in the scholarship.
  • The Tourism Development and Culture Scholarships covers contribution to your travel and installation costs.
  • It also provide for a monthly subsistence allowance for the entire duration of the study program.
  • The scholarships cover the entire duration of the Master course and are awarded solely for full-time enrolment in the course.

Eligibility for Tourism Development and Culture Scholarships for International Students

  • To be eligible for these scholarship, applicants must be Undergraduates with a minimum 2:1 Honors degree or equivalent (e.g. a Grade Point Average of 75%) or display a recognized equivalent level of learning according to national rules and legislation in place.
  • Applicants who will only obtain a minimum 2:1 Honors degree or equivalent (e.g. a Grade Point Average of 75%) at the end of the academic year, prior to the scholarship can nevertheless apply for a scholarship and can be selected by the association, under the condition that the scholar obtains the required degree before the beginning of the Master course.
  • To be eligible for Tourism Development and Culture Scholarships, scholars who are former Action 1 Erasmus Mundus Master/Doctoral Course scholarship holders are not eligible for an additional scholarship. Exceptional applicants cannot benefit from another EU grant while pursuing the scholarship studies.
  • Tourism Development and Culture Scholarships must spend at least two complete vigor periods in at least two of the association’s full HEI partners which are located in different Program Countries. Each of these compulsory vigor periods must include a volume of study/research or equivalent corresponding to at least 30 ECTS.
  • To be qualified for these scholarship, contribution to keep costs will not be given to scholarship holders from a Partner country for periods exceeding three months of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree spent in any Partner country. Contribution to keep costs will not be given to scholarship holders for periods of the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master Degree spent in their country of residence.

The Tourism Development and Culture Scholarships for International Students selection committee determine each application according to the following requirement:

  • Academic merit (e.g. relevance and level of academic qualifications) – 40%
  • Quality of (academic) references – 25%
  • Supporting personal statement – 25% (400 words in total)
  • Other (e.g. relevant research/professional experiences/interests) – 10%
