The University of Essex is a public research university in Essex, England. It was founded in 1963, welcomed students in 1964, and obtained university status by royal charter in 1965. The university is a plate glass university.

Eligibility for University of Essex African Scholarships
- To be qualified for University of Essex African Scholarships, each candidates must have completed relevant school or university studies in an African country.
- The University of Essex African Scholarships are restricted to students who are overseas fee payers and are entirely self-funded.
- You must be ordinarily resident in an African nation to be eligible for the scholarship.
- Each candidate must have been awarded an undergraduate degree with the grade specified or above to be eligible for University of Essex African Scholarships. Note that a higher Masters grade cannot be taken to compensate for a lower Bachelors grade.
Note that qualified courses are those which are full-time taught Masters Courses leading to MA, MSc, LLM, MFA and MRes degrees and start in October 2022 and January 2023.
- Only candidates who have firmly accepted an offer of a place by 16 September 2022 for October 2022 start or 06 January 2023 for January 2023 start and met the academic conditions of entry, will be considered for University of Essex African Scholarships.
- All successful candidates should be available for promotional activities.
