A new program of financed Visiting Fellowships for academics from the Global South is beginning at the University of Cambridge’s Centre for Research in the Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CRASSH). These fellowships are designed to give researchers based at CRASSH and other locations in the University of Cambridge the chance to exchange ideas with one another and to gain access to the university’s collections and resources. These researchers are working at higher education institutions in the Global South. It is anticipated that these trips would spark new partnerships and interactions in the future.
Themed call for applications: Ecologies in Place
In 2024, CRASSH will collaborate with Cambridge’s Consortium for the Global South. Scholars whose work is related to the topic of Ecologies in Place, one of the research streams of the Consortium, are encouraged to apply. However, applicants should be aware that their studies are not limited to ‘places’ in the Global South and may instead focus on any ‘place’.
Benefits of Visiting Fellowships
Return (economy) airfare, a single room with an en suite bathroom in Wolfson College, a stipend to help with extra daily expenses, a desk and computer access at CRASSH, complete access to the University’s libraries and other collections, as well as to activities and seminars hosted by CRASSH or other University departments.
Visiting Fellowships – Eligibility
Scholars researching any subject related to the overarching themes of sustainability, human-environmental interactions, resource management, and the varied implications of climate change are encouraged to apply. While multidisciplinary methods including cooperation with the sciences or engineering are also extremely welcome, applicants should primarily be working within the arts, humanities, or social sciences. Each year, up to three Visiting Fellows from various Global South nations will be chosen. For additional eligibility information, see the more information tab on this page.
