About Lancaster University and Scholarship
Lancaster University, officially known as The University of Lancaster, is a public research university located in Lancaster, Lancashire, England. Established in 1964 by royal charter, it is one of several universities created in the 1960s.
The university’s original location was in St Leonard’s Gate in the city center. In 1967, it began the process of moving to a purpose-built campus on 300 acres of land at Bailrigg, located 4 km (2.5 miles) south of the city. The campus features a central walkway known as the Spine, connected to a central plaza named Alexandra Square, in honor of its first chancellor, Princess Alexandra.
Lancaster University follows a residential collegiate system, with eight undergraduate colleges named after places in the historic county of Lancashire. Each college has its campus residence blocks, common rooms, administrative staff, and bars.
The university has consistently ranked in the top fifteen in all three of the UK’s national league tables over the past decade. It received a Gold rating in the UK government’s Teaching Excellence Framework in 2017. In the 2021/22 academic year, the university reported an income of £357.9 million, with £48.1 million coming from research grants and contracts. Its total expenditure was £402.9 million.
Lancaster University is a member of the N8 Group, a consortium of research-intensive universities in Northern England, which includes the universities of Durham, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield, and York. Since 2015, Alan Milburn has served as the university’s chancellor.

The typical entry standard at Lancaster is around 159 UCAS points based on the new tariff system, with most courses requiring at least AAA or AAB at A-level as of 2017.
