Simmons University Boston Community College Scholarship, USA 2024

About Simmons University and Scholarship

Simmons traces its origins to its founding in 1899, spurred by a generous bequest from John Simmons, a prominent Bostonian clothing manufacturer. Embracing a visionary philosophy, the college was established with a commitment to providing a liberal arts education for undergraduate women, fostering their independence and seamlessly integrating academic learning with professional work experience. At the helm of this endeavor was Sarah Louise Arnold, the inaugural dean, who also made significant contributions as the national president of the Girl Scouts.

A pivotal member of the Colleges of the Fenway consortium, Simmons shares this academic community with institutions such as Emmanuel College, Wentworth Institute of Technology, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, and Massachusetts College of Art and Design. In 1976, Simmons expanded its academic footprint by incorporating Garland Junior College, further enriching its educational offerings. Notably, Wheelock College, a former consortium member, underwent a merger with Boston University, leading to the establishment of the Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development.

Simmons has a proud history of fostering diversity and inclusivity. In 1914, the university celebrated a milestone by graduating its first African-American student. Additionally, during the first half of the 1900s, Simmons stood out as one of the few private colleges that refrained from imposing admission quotas on Jewish students. The university’s commitment to pioneering initiatives for women’s education is exemplified by its MBA program, the first in the world designed specifically for women. While the undergraduate program remains women-centered, the graduate schools have embraced a coeducational model.

In 2014, Simmons College entered a strategic partnership with for-profit online program manager 2U, resulting in a collaboration poised to generate substantial revenues for the institution.

Presently, Simmons University spans two campuses nestled in the vibrant Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. The Academic Campus, comprising five academic buildings, underscores the institution’s commitment to scholarly pursuits. On the other hand, the Residential Campus, home to nine residential buildings catering to undergraduate students, provides a nurturing living and learning environment.

The university embarked on an ambitious initiative in November 2020 known as “One Simmons.” This visionary plan aims to consolidate the two campuses into a unified space, marked by the creation of a 21-story “Living and Learning Center.”

Candidates who earn an associate’s degree from either Roxbury Community College or Bunker Hill Community College are eligible to apply for the Boston Community College award, which is a two-year full-tuition award.
