About the University of Queensland and Scholarship
A public research university with its main campus in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia, the University of Queensland (UQ, or Queensland University) was founded in 1902. One of the six sandstone universities, which is an informal term for the oldest university in each state, UQ was founded in 1909 by the Queensland government. The University of Queensland is rated 2nd in Australia and 42nd worldwide in 2023 based on the combined rankings of the three most prestigious global universities. UQ is also a founding member of edX, the top Group of Eight in Australia, and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, a global organization with a focus on high-quality research.
Southwest of Brisbane’s central business area, the main St. Lucia campus takes up most of St. Lucia’s riverfront inner neighborhood. The Gatton campus and the Mayne Medical School are the largest UQ campuses and facilities, which are spread out across Queensland. There are two UQ facilities abroad: the UQ-Ochsner Clinical School in Louisiana, United States, and the UQ North America office in Washington, D.C.
Some of UQ’s rankings include being ranked 36th globally by U.S. News in 2022, 47th in the Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2022, 50th in the 2023 QS World University Rankings, 53rd in the 2023 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, 37th globally in the CWTS Leiden Ranking, and 33rd globally in the 2022 NTU rankings. UQ is now ranked 42 globally and the second-best in Australia as of 2023. These rankings are presented by the Aggregate Rankings of Top Universities (UNSW), which calculates the average of all significant rating organizations (such as QS, THE, and ARWU) and lists the results.
