The university is acclaimed for its impressive performance in science and is included as one of the “R1: Doctoral Universities – Very High Research Activity” in the CWTS Leiden Ranking. The National Science Foundation ranked the university 36th out of all American academic institutions in terms of research and development (R&D) investment. Eligibility Criteria for Emory University Scholar Programs

Applicants are advised to meet the following requirements to be qualified for the Emory University Scholar Programs:

  • Any student may be considered for the scholar programs, regardless of citizenship.
  • Students must apply for one of Emory University’s three admission periods.

Selection Procedure

The Office of Admission oversees the selection of merit-based scholar programs in conjunction with top instructors. Between 8,000 and 10,000 students apply to be Scholars every year. From among those, 175-200 students were selected as Scholar Finalists. The Scholars Finalists Visit is held on campus in the spring, and finalists are required to attend. Finalists are invited to campus at no additional cost to the pupil.

The multi-day trip includes activities and interviews designed to acquaint applicants with Emory University and the distinctive opportunities available to them there. Even though they are not selected as program finalists, those who do not make it through the application process are extensively evaluated for admission, and they are automatically eligible for additional small merit-based incentives. Selection of financial aid is done separately from selection of scholars. When a student qualifies for both financial aid and scholarships, merit scholarships are awarded first. If there is an unmet need after the merit scholarship award, students who apply for financial help may also qualify for need-based grants and loans.
