The University of Alberta, also known as U of A, is a prominent public research university situated in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Established in 1908 by Alexander Cameron Rutherford, the first premier of Alberta, and Henry Marshall Tory, the university’s first president, it was made possible through the Post-secondary Learning Act. The university is recognized as a “comprehensive academic and research university” (CARU), offering a diverse range of academic and professional programs leading to undergraduate and graduate-level qualifications. It consistently ranks among the top public universities in Canada according to major college and university rankings.

The university operates across multiple campuses, including four in Edmonton, an Augustana Campus in Camrose, and a staff center in downtown Calgary. The original north campus encompasses 150 buildings spanning 50 city blocks along the south rim of the North Saskatchewan River valley, situated across from and west of downtown Edmonton.
