About the University of Queensland and Scholarship
The University of Queensland (UQ), also known as Queensland University, is a renowned public research university located primarily in Brisbane, the capital city of Queensland, Australia. It was established in 1909 by the Queensland parliament and holds the prestigious status of being one of the six sandstone universities in the country. This informal designation is reserved for the oldest university in each Australian state. UQ is a founding member of edX, and it is part of Australia’s Group of Eight, a coalition of leading research-intensive universities, as well as the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, emphasizing its international standing.
UQ’s primary campus is situated in the inner suburb of St Lucia, along the riverside in Brisbane, to the southwest of the central business district. The university also maintains multiple campuses and facilities throughout Queensland, with the Gatton campus and the Mayne Medical School being among the largest. Beyond Australia, UQ has established a presence with the UQ North America office in Washington D.C. and the UQ-Ochsner Clinical School in Louisiana, United States.
The university offers a wide range of academic programs, including associate, bachelor, master, doctoral, and higher doctorate degrees. These programs are administered through a college, a graduate school, and six faculties. UQ is home to over one hundred research institutes and centers, where groundbreaking research is conducted. Notable research contributions from UQ include the development of the HPV vaccine to prevent cervical cancer, involvement in the early stages of a COVID-19 vaccine that reached human trials, and advancements in the field of high-performance superconducting MRI magnets for portable scanning of human limbs.
UQ boasts a distinguished alumni community, which includes two Nobel laureates, Peter C. Doherty and John Harsanyi. It has also produced over a hundred Olympians who have achieved numerous gold medals and counts 117 Rhodes Scholars among its former students and staff members.
In recognition of Nev Ducat’s generosity and that of Emmanuel College and UQ alumni, Emmanuel College has made a contribution available to support the Nev Ducat Regional Queensland Engineering Residential Scholarship. Nev’s cadetship immediately allowed him to live at Emmanuel College and attend UQ to study electrical engineering. Nev hopes to utilize his skill to help kids in that industry, which he recognizes has given him a fulfilling professional career, by creating chances for them. The UQ Residential Scholarships Program includes this scholarship. You only need to submit one application to be considered for all scholarships in this scheme.
