Victoria University of Wellington Norman Kirk Memorial Trust Pasifika Scholarship, New Zealand 2023

Application is now open for the Norman Kirk Memorial Trust Pasifika Scholarship at Victoria University of Wellington. Interested applicants are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About Victoria University of Wellington and Scholarship

On the 60th anniversary of her coronation, Victoria University of Wellington was established and given the name Victoria (formerly Victoria University College). When the University of New Zealand was dissolved in 1961, Victoria University College (or simply “Vic”) changed its name to Victoria University of Wellington and started awarding its degrees.

The University Council, which consists of 20 members, is responsible for day-to-day administration. Of these, four are chosen by the Court of Convocation, three by the academic staff, one by the general staff, two by the executive of the student union, four by the Minister of Education, four by the Council itself, and the Vice-Chancellor. All graduates who elect to participate make up the Court of Convocation. Three campuses of Victoria University of Wellington are dispersed around Wellington. Auckland also has locations for it.

The Right Honourable Norman Kirk, Prime Minister of New Zealand from 1972 to 1974, is honored through the Norman Kirk Memorial Trust Pasifika Scholarship, which was founded in 1976. Norman Kirk was an inspiring and kind leader who made a lot of effort to better the lives of the poor and to forge ties between New Zealand and other little countries in Africa, Asia, and the Pacific.

Following his early passing, contributions from individuals and organizations went into a fund that is currently managed and invested by the Trust. Scholarships are awarded to South Pacific and New Zealand students from the cash generated, particularly to those who are dedicated to “second chance” education or training and pursuing a degree that would enable them to contribute more effectively to their communities.
