About Cranfield University and Scholarship

Science, engineering, design, technology, and management are the areas of specialization of Cranfield University in the United Kingdom, a public research institution for postgraduate students exclusively. In 1946, the College of Aeronautics (CoA) was established before becoming Cranfield. The rise and diversification of the manufacturing and management industries throughout the 1950s and 1960s, as well as the establishment of the Cranfield School of Management in 1967, were all influenced by the advancement of aviation research.

The Cranfield Institute of Technology was established by royal charter, given the authority to grant degrees, and given a new name in 1969. At that time, the College of Aeronautics had previously been known as the College of Aeronautics. The current name was given to it in 1993.

Cranfield University has two campuses: the main one is at Cranfield, Bedfordshire, and the other is at the Defence Academy of the United Kingdom in Shrivenham, south-west Oxfordshire. The main campus is unusual in the UK (and Europe) for having its aircraft used for teaching and research, as well as its airfield, Cranfield Airfield.

The Cranfield campus is located in the Bedfordshire community of Cranfield, around 50 miles (80 km) north of central London. The closest major cities are Milton Keynes and Bedford, both with a center that is around 8 miles (13 km) distant. About 48 kilometers (30 miles) east lies Cambridge. Shrivenham is located around 23 miles (37 km) from Oxford and 73 miles (117 km) west of London. It is next to Shrivenham Village and is 7 miles (11 km) from the center of the closest town, Swindon.

The Cambridge, Milton Keynes, and Oxford corridor has the Cranfield campus, and there are ambitions to connect these cities and promote economic development. A plan for a rapid transport system connecting the university and (growing) Milton Keynes is also available, albeit it is still in the concept stage.

Cranfield University is not included in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings, The Times World Rankings, The Complete University Guide, or The Guardian since it only offers postgraduate programs; these rankings are intended to assist prospective undergraduate students in comparing universities. Direct comparison with undergraduate institutions is challenging since the university is a postgraduate institution.

Governments, businesses, and industries are connected to Cranfield University.
