The University of Leeds is accepting applications for its partially funded Air Quality Solutions – International Masters Excellence Scholarships.

About the University of Leeds and Scholarship

The University of Leeds has been a focal point of attention and recognition in the academic landscape, marked by significant events and accolades. In August 2010, the university found itself in the spotlight as one of the most sought-after institutions during the UCAS clearing process for 2010 admission. This process, aimed at matching undersubscribed courses with students who did not meet their initial choices, saw the university, part of the esteemed Russell Group, offering limited places to “exceptional” students. Notably, some other Russell Group universities had opted out of the process due to their courses being at full capacity.

A notable event occurred on October 12, 2010, when The Refectory of the Leeds University Union hosted a live edition of Channel 4 News. This special broadcast featured students, academics, and economists expressing their reactions to the Browne Review, an independent assessment of Higher Education funding and student finance led by John Browne, Baron Browne of Madingley. The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds, Michael Arthur, who also served as the Chairman of the Russell Group, participated in the discussion. The event became more charged when a small group of protesters entered the building, voicing concerns about the potential rise of student debt, leading to their restraint and evacuation.

In 2016, the University of Leeds achieved the prestigious title of University of the Year 2017 in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide. This recognition reflected the university’s overall excellence, including outstanding results in student experience, high entry standards, quality services and facilities, and favorable graduate prospects.

As of 2022, the global world ranking of the University of Leeds stands at 86, with a student population of 36,840. The average tuition fee is £9,250 per year, although partial subsidies toward this cost are available in some cases.

In terms of research excellence, the University of Leeds has demonstrated its prowess. In the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, it secured a joint 20th position among multi-faculty institutions in the UK for the quality (GPA) of its research. Additionally, it claimed the 8th spot for its Research Power, a measure combining the grade point average score of a university with the full-time equivalent number of researchers submitted.
