Application is now open for the Alumni Friends HDR Dentistry Top-Up Scholarship at the University of Queensland. Interested candidates are encouraged to send their applications in before the deadline date.

About the University of Queensland and Scholarship

The University of Queensland was created by a State Parliament Act in 1909, and on April 16, 1910, the first UQ Senate nominations were gazetted, making it a legally binding entity. The Old Government House on George Street in Brisbane served as the site of the inaugural lectures in 1911. There were three faculties and 83 students (60 men and 23 women) in the first year.

Drs. Chris Muir, Marcus Tod, and John O’Hare, who serve on the caretaker committee, along with Dr. Stephen Papas, launched a fundraising campaign to create an endowment fund to support research for the provision of oral healthcare for people facing long-term hardships to commemorate the 2019 closure of the Alumni and Friends Dentistry Special Interest Group. The Alumni Friends HDR Dentistry Top-Up Scholarship will assist a higher-degree Research student who is conducting oral health research but is experiencing financial difficulty. Candidates whose research will improve oral health in underserved regions will be given preference.
