Located in Cambridge, England’s ancient city, the University of Cambridge is a public college research university with a distinguished history. It was founded in 1209 and is the third-oldest continuously operating university in the world. The institution was founded by academics who left the institution of Oxford after a disagreement with the residents of the surrounding town. The two historic English universities, Oxford and Cambridge, are sometimes referred to as rivals, yet they really share many characteristics and are referred to as Oxbridge together. In 1231, the University of Cambridge was officially recognized when King Henry III awarded it a royal charter.
Reputably regarded as one of the best institutions in the world, the University of Cambridge has won praise for its outstanding academic program. It is regarded as the best institution in Europe and comes in second place worldwide in the QS Rankings for 2023, right after MIT.
Cambridge is ranked fourth in the world in 2023 by ARWU, after MIT, Harvard, and Stanford. Only Oxford and Harvard were placed higher than Cambridge, which was tied for third place in the world’s greatest universities by Times Higher Education that same year. In Life Sciences and Medicine, Cambridge claimed the fourth position globally, and its Natural Sciences program secured the third spot. The Social Sciences and Management program rounded off the impressive performance, securing the fourth position globally.
