About Bournemouth University and Scholarship

Early in the 20th century, the institution was established as Bournemouth Municipal College. In the beginning (1942–1976), the institution provided courses to get students ready for degrees from the University of London. There were 6,850 day and evening students in the middle of the 1960s.

The number of students at the institution was brought up in the House of Commons as early as 1965 when the Secretary of State was requested to have a look at an application for admission. The government had not planned to establish any new institutions until the latter part of the 1970s. The college changed its name to Bournemouth College of Technology in the 1970s. The College of Technology changed its name to the Dorset Institute of Higher Education (DIHE) later that decade when the Dorset Education Committee reviewed it.

Against the early uncertainties surrounding the Weymouth Campus, Bernard MacManus led a major growth of the curriculum and student body when he was named Director in 1983. The Talbot Campus, which had been founded in 1976, was consolidated throughout this period.

Additionally, the nearby Student Village was built. There’s now a second campus at Lansdowne. The Institute expanded into additional fields between 1983 and 1994, including information systems, tax, public relations, computer animation, heritage, and tourism. There are still two foundation stones in university buildings. The College of Technology’s founding stone from the 1970s is located in Poole House’s main foyer on the Talbot Campus. The Dorset Institute’s foundation stone is situated at Dorset House, close to the area that is currently known as The Edge.

In 2011, Bournemouth University was honored with the Queen’s Anniversary Prize for Higher and Further Education, recognizing its “world-class computer animation teaching with wide scientific and creative applications.” This accolade highlighted the university’s excellence in this particular field.

Bournemouth University also saw improvements in its national rankings, with higher positions in various university league tables. The university’s Vice Chancellor, John Vinney, received increased salary compensation, which was considered justified due to the university’s enhanced performance.

Moreover, Bournemouth University made its debut in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings in the 2015/16 academic year, where it was ranked jointly between 401st and 500th globally and 57th among UK universities. The institution’s rising reputation and rankings contributed to its recognition and success.

Additionally, the university received praise for its courses from the Prime Minister in Parliament in 2014, further highlighting its commitment to delivering quality education and academic excellence.

As for the automatic scholarship for students from BNUZ enrolling in applicable programs at the BU Business School, no separate application is necessary. Eligible students will receive a tuition fee reduction during their first year as long as they meet all the requirements and possess a relevant qualification from BNUZ.
