About Cardiff University and Scholarship
Cardiff University, known in Welsh as Prifysgol Caerdydd, stands as a distinguished public research institution in Cardiff, Wales. Its rich history dates back to 1883 when it was established as the University College of South Wales and Monmouthshire. It played a pivotal role in the founding of the University of Wales in 1893.
Over the years, the university underwent several name changes, including University College, Cardiff in 1972, and later merged with the University of Wales Institute of Science and Technology in 1988, evolving into University of Wales College, Cardiff, and subsequently the University of Wales, Cardiff in 1996. In 1999, it adopted the operating name Cardiff University, officially becoming its legal name in 2005, marking its status as an independent university with the authority to award its degrees.

Cardiff University has an esteemed academic community, with 17 members of the Royal Society, 11 fellows of the Royal Academy of Engineering, 7 fellows of the British Academy, 21 fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences, and 32 fellows of the Academy of Social Sciences as of 2023. Most of Cardiff University’s academic buildings, including the main building, the Bute Building, the Glamorgan Building, the Redwood Building, the Law Building, and the biosciences building, are located in Cathays Park, which is central to the city of Cardiff.

Cardiff University has established the Cardiff University Master’s Performance Scholarships as part of its dedication to promoting academic performance. This competitive scholarship initiative, which has an investment of up to £500,000, is to support UK students who intend to enroll in Master’s programs that qualify for funding in the academic year 2024–2025. Each Cardiff University Master’s Excellence Scholarship is valued at £3,000 and will be awarded as a tuition fee discount, reflecting the university’s dedication to fostering education and providing financial support to deserving students.

Eligibility Criteria for Cardiff University Master’s Excellence Scholarships
Candidates are advised to meet the following conditions to be qualified for Cardiff University Master’s Excellence Scholarships:
- The applicant’s first degree must have been at least a 2.1 or the equivalent for them to be qualified.
- Only fully completed postgraduate taught courses leading to a Master’s degree, including full-time and part-time, are eligible for the scholarship program.
- A student will get 50% of the scholarship in the first year and 50% in the second if they enroll in the course part-time.
- If the student enrolls in a full-time course that lasts more than a year, they will not be able to receive financing from this Scholarship program or its successor for any additional years.
Application Process for Cardiff University Master’s Excellence Scholarships
The Online Applicant Portal is used to submit applications. The SIMS Online Applicant Portal will provide a link to the Master’s Scholarship application form after your application for a course has been approved. The Online Applicant Portal login credentials will be emailed to new applicants. Both current and former students can access the scholarship application link on the SIMS “My Application” tab by logging in with their existing login credentials.
