About City University London and Scholarship

In April 2001, the school and Queen Mary, University of London, developed a strategic partnership. The fourth-floor offices and roof were destroyed by a fire that broke out in the college building in May 2001. The Inns of Court School of Law and City decided to combine their programs in August 2001. An enormous facility for the Business School was constructed at 106 Bunhill Row thanks to a gift from the Sir John Cass’s Foundation.

The Department of Language and Communication Science and the School of Social Sciences are now housed in a new £23 million facility that was inaugurated in 2004. Following a fire in 2001, the Grade II listed college building at the university underwent extensive repair, which was finished in July 2006.

A £10 million building renovation was completed in 2007 for the School of Arts. In October 2008, a brand-new students’ union location dubbed “TEN squared” opened its doors. This space serves as a hub for students to socialize throughout the day and organizes a variety of evening entertainment, including club nights, society events, and quiz nights.

Following the City’s cooperation with INTO University Partnerships, spaces were shared with the University of East Anglia (UEA) London in January 2010. Since then, the City’s own International Foundation Programme has restarted to help students become ready for their first year of college. The Times Higher Education Table of Tables placed City among the top 30 higher education institutions in the UK.

It was reported in April 2011 that the present resident halls and Saddler’s Sports Center would be shut down and dismantled to be rebuilt in June 2011. 2015 saw the opening of the brand-new student residences and sports complex, currently known as CitySport. The City University changed its name to the City, University of London in September 2016 after joining the federal University of London.

City improved from seventh position in the 2016 league to joint fifth place among the 168 institutions polled in the 2019 People & Planet league table of the most sustainable UK universities. It was the top-ranked University of London institution in both the 2016 and 2019 rankings and one of just four London schools to make the top twenty.
