The University of Queensland Cairngorm-Kurrajong Scholarship Endowment, Australia 2024

Application is now open for the Cairngorm-Kurrajong Scholarship Endowment at the University of Queensland. Interested applicants are encouraged to send in their applications before the deadline date.

About the University of Queensland and Scholarship

The public research University of Queensland is situated in Brisbane, which serves as both the state capital of Queensland and the location of its main campus. The Queensland government established UQ, the oldest university in each state, as one of the six sandstone institutions in 1909. Furthermore, it has held this distinction for the longest among the six universities. In addition, UQ is a founder member of edX, the top Eight organization in Australia, as well as the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, a group that promotes global research.

The main St. Lucia campus occupies a sizable chunk of the inner-city community of St. Lucia, which is situated next to a river, southwest of Brisbane’s downtown business district. There are further UQ locations in Queensland, however, the Gatton campus and Mayne Medical School are the two most important ones. Only two of the places that UQ maintains are the UQ-Ochsner Clinical School in Louisiana, United States, and the UQ North America headquarters in Washington, D.C.

The university has six faculties, a graduate school, and a college that grants associate, bachelor, master, doctoral, and advanced doctorate degrees. More than 100 research institutions and centers are hosted at UQ, including the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology, Boeing Research and Technology Australia Center, Molecular Bioscience Institute, and UQ Dow Centre for Sustainable Engineering Innovation. The institution has recently been involved in some notable research projects, such as the development of high-performance superconducting MRI magnets for on-the-go scanning of human limbs and the discovery of the HPV vaccine that prevents cervical cancer.

117 Rhodes Scholars, 117 Olympians with multiple gold medals, two Nobel laureates (Peter C. Doherty and John Harsanyi), and more than 100 are among its former workers and alumni.

Under the Create Change Scholarship Match Initiative, the Alumni Friends Society created the Cairngorm-Kurrajong Scholarship Endowment in 2021. The scholarship is named in honor of all Book Group volunteers, past and present: Kurrajong is the name of the Long Pocket building, which serves as the Book Fair team’s “new home,” and Cairngorm was the name of the original St. Lucia campus “Book House,” which served as the headquarters of the Alumni Friends and Book Fair teams. The UQ Residential Scholarships Scheme includes this scholarship. You only need to submit one application to be evaluated for all scholarships in this scheme.
