About the University of Leeds and Scholarship

Founded in 1874 as the Yorkshire College of Science, the University of Leeds is a prestigious public research university situated in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It has a long and illustrious history. It has developed throughout time into a preeminent center for education dedicated to cutting-edge research and academic achievement.

The Yorkshire College was renamed Yorkshire College after it underwent significant changes, including a merger with the Leeds School of Medicine in 1884, when it was first established as the Yorkshire College of Science. An important turning point in its history was its subsequent absorption into the federal Victoria University in 1887, which brought it into line with prestigious establishments such as University College Liverpool (now the University of Liverpool) and Owens College (now the University of Manchester). King Edward VII granted the University of Leeds a royal charter in 1904, establishing the university as a prestigious academic establishment.
