About the University of Queensland and Scholarship
The University of Queensland (UQ, or Queensland University) is a public research university located in Brisbane, the state capital of Queensland, Australia. UQ was established in 1909 by the Queensland parliament and is one of the six sandstone universities or the oldest institution in each state. Based on the rankings of the three most prominent universities in the world, the University of Queensland is ranked second in Australia and 42nd globally in 2023. UQ is also a founding member of edX, one of Australia’s leading Group of Eight universities, and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities, which conducts major global research.
The main St. Lucia campus occupies most of St. Lucia’s riverside inner area, which is located southwest of Brisbane’s central business district. The main UQ campuses and facilities are the Gatton campus and the Mayne Medical School, which are located in Queensland. Two of UQ’s overseas sites are the UQ-Ochsner Clinical School in Louisiana, United States, and the UQ North America headquarters in Washington, D.C.
A few of UQ’s rankings include being ranked 36th worldwide by U.S. News in 2022, 47th by the Academic Ranking of World Universities in 2022, 50th by the QS in 2023, 53rd by the Times Higher Education in 2023, 37th by the CWTS Leiden Ranking in 2022, and 33rd worldwide by the NTU in 2022.
UQ is ranked as the second-best institution in Australia and 42nd overall as of 2023. The Aggregate Ranks of Top Universities (UNSW), which compiles the list’s ranks, calculates the average of all significant rating agencies (such as QS, THE, and ARWU) and places each agency’s results in the appropriate position. The University of Toronto was placed #1 in the reputation poll conducted by Maclean’s 2023 university rankings. The university was rated despite not participating in Maclean’s Graduate Survey since 2006, along with several other Canadian universities.
The Dr. Paul Stuart McCarthy Memorial Prize was created in 2008 and is funded by the proceeds of a $25,000 gift made by Mrs. Haila McCarthy on behalf of her family in honor of her son, Dr. Paul Stuart McCarthy.
