About the University of Queensland and Scholarship
Queensland places a lot of focus on research in the fields of science, medicine, and technology. One example of the university’s scientific accomplishment is Professor Ian Frazer’s development of the cervical cancer vaccines Gardasil and Cervarix. An Australian Cancer Research Foundation assessment from 2009 found that UQ has taken the lead in numerous areas of cancer research.
More UQ researchers are working in research fields that ERA has assessed as being above world standard than at any other Australian university, according to the Commonwealth Government’s Excellence in Research for Australia 2012 National Report. UQ’s research is rated above the world standard in more broad fields than any other Australian university (in 22 broad fields).
UQ research was rated higher than the global average (rating 5) in the fields of biomedical and clinical health sciences, technology, engineering, biological, chemical, environmental, and physical sciences.
According to the Nature Index, UQ had the largest volume of research production in the southern hemisphere’s multidisciplinary journals Science and Nature in 2015, with around twice as much output as the world average. According to The Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2016 MBA rating, UQ Business School’s Master of Business Administration program is ranked first overall in Asia Pacific and within the top 10 internationally.
UQ was rated in the top 50 worldwide in 20 subjects in the QS World University Rankings by Subject 2021. In terms of sports-related subjects, UQ is first in Australia and second globally, while in terms of mineral & mining engineering, UQ is second in Australia and third globally.
New HASS Globetrotters Grant applications are currently being accepted from students at HASS who want to travel for extracurricular opportunities that will improve their employability. Experience the world outside of your immediate context; it helps you gain confidence, and resilience, and open your mind to new ideas that may help you realize what job opportunities are accessible to you. This is the best method to develop many of the attributes that employers look for.
Students who take the initiative to look for extracurricular overseas activities that are a little “out of the ordinary” will be supported by the institution. This could comprise, but is not restricted to:
- Professional development workshops
- Internships or field experience
- Conferences
- Leadership programs
- Research programs
