About Imperial College London and Scholarship
Imperial College London (abbreviated Imperial) is a public research university in London, England. Its history began with Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort, who envisioned a cultural district that included the Royal Albert Hall, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and many royal colleges. Imperial College London was founded by royal license in 1907, bringing together the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City and Guilds of London Institute. The Imperial College School of Medicine was created in 1988 by the merger of St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and Imperial College. The Imperial College Business School was founded in 2004 by Queen Elizabeth II.
Imperial College London is primarily concerned with science, engineering, business, and medicine. The main campus, located in South Kensington, is where the majority of teaching and research takes place. In White City, a second campus serves as a hub for innovation and business. Teaching hospitals located around London comprise an academic health science center. Previously a part of the University of London, the institution became an autonomous university in 2007. With 59% of students from outside the UK and 140 nations represented on campus, Imperial has a highly international population.
Imperial was placed first in the United Kingdom overall in Times Higher Education rankings based on Research Excellence Framework outcomes 2021. According to the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, 96.6% of Imperial’s research is “world-leading” (66.3% received the highest possible 4* rating) or “internationally excellent” (30.3% received a 3* rating). The REF determined that 93% of Imperial’s computer science research was world-leading, earning the maximum possible 4* rating.
The institution encourages research commercialization, in part through Imperial Innovations, a specialized technology transfer organization that has given rise to a large number of spin-out enterprises based on academic research. Imperial was instrumental in the discovery of penicillin and the development of fiber optics.
Over the previous 10 years, the United States has been the college’s most active collaborating overseas country, with more than 15,000 publications co-authored by Imperial and U.S.-based academics. Imperial College has had a long-standing relationship with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology since World War II.
The graduate business school of Imperial College London is known as Imperial College Business School. Queen Elizabeth II formally launched the business school. The mission statement of the business school is that it will “benefit business and improve society through the power of innovative thinking.”

- All applications from residents of one of the 21 Latin American nations (as listed by the UN) will be taken into consideration.
- A well-rounded application with a good academic background, prospects for a successful career, references, and personal statement.

Candidates will automatically be considered for this scholarship if they submit their application for an MSc program by the deadline listed below and are offered a spot in the program. The admissions staff will inform selected applicants. You are advised to submit your application as soon as you can to increase your chances of success because awards will be evaluated starting after the first deadline. Since all scholarships in this category could have already been given out in a previous round or there might not have been enough qualified applicants, awards might not be given out after every deadline.
