About City University of London and Scholarship
The Northampton Institute and the City Law School, which opened its doors in 1852, are where City got its start. The first was named for the Marquess of Northampton, who provided the property in Islington between Northampton Square and St. John Street on which the institute was constructed. The institution was founded to support the community’s welfare and educational needs. Aiming to “promote the industrial skill, general knowledge, health, and well-being of young men and women belonging to the poorer classes,” it was established under the City of London Parochial Charities Act (1883).
In 1894, the Northampton Polytechnic Institute was established in Clerkenwell, London. Robert Mullineux Walmsley served as the school’s first principal. Colin Cherry, Stuart Davies, and Anthony Hunt are alumni. Arthur George Cocksedge, a British gymnast who participated in the 1920 Summer Olympics, belonged to the gymnastics club at Northampton Polytechnic Institute and won the 1920 British Championship. The 1937 ABA Middleweight Champion was Maurice Dennis of the Northampton Polytechnic ABC. The institute’s aeronautics instructor was Frederick Handley Page. His first powered aircraft, the Handley Page Type A, was converted into an instructional airframe for the school. Eric Ambler, a novelist, attended the university to study engineering.
Applied Physics and Electrical Engineering, Artistic Crafts, Domestic Economy, and Women’s Trades, Electro-Chemistry, Horology (the science of time and the art of clockmaking), Mechanical Engineering and Metal Trades, and Horology were the six founding departments of the institute.
Two Dean’s Scholarships worth £2,500 are offered by the School of Health & Psychological Sciences to academically exceptional students who are enrolled in one of the school’s undergraduate programs and want to transfer to a master’s program (September or January intake).
All successful candidates will get a fee waiver from the second fee installment in addition to the entire scholarship amount, which will be given to full-time students. For part-time students, half of the funding will be given as a fee waiver in the first year of study and the other half in the second year (again deducted from the second fee installment).

Eligibility Criteria for School of Health & Psychological Sciences Dean’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence
Candidates are advised to meet the following requirements to be qualified for the School of Health & Psychological Sciences Dean’s Scholarship for Academic Excellence at City University of London:
- Candidates must be in their last year of undergraduate studies at the City University of London’s School of Health & Psychological Sciences.
- Candidates must have a grade point average in their undergraduate studies of at least 70%.
- The Graduate Loyalty Discount is the only scholarship that students may get; all other scholarships must be self-funded.
Note: Academic excellence (grades from both years 1 and 2 of undergraduate study will be taken into consideration), a personal statement, and academic references will all be taken into account when evaluating applications. Only candidates with a cumulative GPA of at least 70% will be taken into consideration.
