About Imperial College London and Scholarship

The Imperial College London (abbreviated Imperial) is an English public research institution. Its history began with Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort, who envisioned a cultural district including the Royal Albert Hall, the Victoria and Albert Museum, the Natural History Museum, and other royal colleges. In 1907, the Royal College of Science, the Royal School of Mines, and the City and Guilds of London Institute merged to form Imperial College London by royal license. St Mary’s Hospital Medical School and Imperial College merged in 1988 to form the Imperial College School of Medicine. Queen Elizabeth II established Imperial College Business School in 2004.

The primary interests of Imperial College London include science, engineering, business, and medicine. The majority of teaching and research is done on the main site in South Kensington. A second site in White City acts as an innovation and business center. An academic health science center is made up of teaching hospitals distributed around London. Previously affiliated with the University of London, the school became an independent university in 2007. Imperial has a very international student body, with 59% of students coming from outside the UK and 140 countries represented on campus.

In their first year after graduation, Imperial grads are said to make the highest salaries in the UK, according to The Guardian.

According to Times Higher Education rankings based on the results of the Research Excellence Framework for 2021, Imperial was ranked #1 overall in the United Kingdom. According to the 2021 Research Excellence Framework, 96.6% of Imperial’s research is “world-leading” (66.3% received the highest possible 4* ranking) or “internationally excellent” (30.3% received 3*). The maximum possible 4* score was awarded to Imperial University for 93% of their computer science research, which was deemed to be of global significance.
