Alfred Midgley Postgraduate Scholarship was created in 2010 as a gift from Zoe Ann Burnett’s estate in honor of her late grandpa, Dr. Alfred Midgley. It is funded yearly from the proceeds of her estate. Dr. Alfred Midgley made a lot of contributions to early Queensland culture. He was a preacher in the Methodist Church, a poet from Queensland who was published early, and a member of the ninth Queensland legislature. In 1948, Zoe Ann Burnett earned an arts degree from The University of Queensland, and in 1989, she received a master’s degree in literary studies. The scholarship’s goal is to assist a postgraduate student in researching Australian literature.
