About Newcastle University and Scholarship

Newcastle University, officially known as the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, stands as a distinguished public research institution situated in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne, North East England. Boasting a rich history and a commitment to academic excellence, the university has firmly established itself as a red-brick university and proudly holds membership in the prestigious Russell Group—an association of leading research-intensive universities in the United Kingdom.

The university’s origins trace back to the School of Medicine and Surgery, founded in 1834, and the College of Physical Science, established in 1871 and later renamed Armstrong College. These institutions, along with the Durham Colleges, eventually became part of the federal University of Durham. In a significant milestone in 1937, the Newcastle colleges merged to form King’s College. Subsequently, in 1963, through an Act of Parliament, King’s College transformed into the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

In a forward-looking initiative, Newcastle University introduces the Alumni Progression Scholarship and Alumni Progression Discount schemes, set to be available from the 2024 academic year onwards. These schemes offer distinct pathways, providing valuable opportunities for alumni to further their education and contribute to their academic and professional growth.
