About Newcastle University and Scholarship

Nestled in the vibrant city of Newcastle upon Tyne in North East England, Newcastle University, officially known as the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, stands as a distinguished public research institution. With a global outlook, the university has expanded its influence with overseas campuses in Singapore and Malaysia. As a red-brick university and a proud member of the esteemed Russell Group—an association of research-intensive UK universities—Newcastle University has established itself as a hub of academic excellence and innovation.

The rich tapestry of Newcastle University’s history can be traced back to the School of Medicine and Surgery, established in 1834, and the College of Physical Science, founded in 1871 and later renamed Armstrong College. These institutions converged to form a significant division of the federal University of Durham, with the Newcastle colleges coming together to create King’s College in 1937. A transformative moment occurred in 1963 when, through an Act of Parliament, King’s College evolved into the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, solidifying its status as a beacon of higher education.

Offering a diverse array of academic programs, Newcastle University provides approximately 175 full-time undergraduate degree programs across various subject areas, spanning arts, sciences, engineering, and medicine. Additionally, the university offers around 340 postgraduate taught and research programs, fostering a dynamic environment for academic exploration and growth.

Newcastle University’s commitment to research and innovation is underscored by its membership in the Russell Group. In national and global rankings, the university has consistently secured a prominent position.

The university’s research prowess was evident in the 2021 Research Excellence Framework (REF), where Newcastle University stood joint 33rd by GPA and 15th for research power—a testament to its contributions to advancing knowledge and addressing real-world challenges.

In its continuous efforts to nurture talent and provide opportunities for high-performing students, Newcastle University annually opens its scholarship call for applications in the International Foundation program. This initiative aims to attract and support outstanding individuals, fostering a diverse and inclusive community of learners.
