The chosen candidate will get a $10,000 scholarship and the chance to work with WSP on a work placement to hone their engineering abilities and increase their involvement in the business. Within one of the market-leading business groups (Transport, Property, Energy and Resources, Earth and Environment, or Water), the work placement will offer priceless project-specific expertise. In addition to project management, sustainability, and earth sciences, WSP offers a wide range of specializations in each of these fields, including mechanical, electrical, civil, and structural engineering. The work experience has the potential to lead to a continuing paid internship and eventual employment. It will last for a maximum of six weeks with flexibility.

Eligibility Criteria for Playford Trust / WSP Engineering Scholarship

Applicants are advised to meet the following conditions to be qualified for the Playford Trust / WSP Engineering Scholarship at Flinders University:

  • Prepared to start their fourth year of environmental studies, civil, structural, mechanical, or electrical engineering at one of the three public universities in South Australia, or their honors program.
  • A South Australian resident who is either an Australian citizen or the bearer of a permanent resident visa
  • Intended to work in South Australia for a substantial portion of their career or likely to be beneficial to the State
  • A top performer having a stellar undergraduate record
  • Of moral integrity. Students with leadership potential will be given preference.
  • Be able to finish the six-week internship within six months of being awarded the fellowship.

Note: Students who possess confidence and experience in digital communication and human connection, together with a strong focus on honing their technical engineering and consulting abilities, will also be given preference. A supporting statement regarding the student’s accomplishments, character, and leadership potential must be provided by the applicant’s supervisor or an academic referee (such as the dean of the school or faculty) or lecturer.

Selection Criteria

Student submissions from any of the three public institutions in South Australia will be taken into consideration by the Playford Trust, which retains the discretion to accept, reject, or not accept any or all of the nominations. The final decision will be made in conjunction with WSP and the Playford Trust, and the selected candidates will be interviewed.
