About the University of Southern Denmark and Scholarship

In 1998, the South Jutland University Center, the Southern Denmark School of Business and Engineering, and Odense University were combined to become the University of Southern Denmark. In 1998, the university and the Southern Danish University Library were combined. The University of Southern Denmark commemorated its 50th anniversary on September 15, 2016, the same day the original Odense University was founded in 1966.

The Odense University College of Engineering joined the university in 2006 and changed its name to the Faculty of Engineering. The nine-person board that oversees the institution is composed of five outside recruits who make up the bulk of the board, one member chosen by the scientific staff, one by the administrative staff, and two by the students. The board of the university appoints the rector. Heads of departments are appointed by deans, who are in turn appointed by the rector. The nomination of the rector, deans, and department heads does not include the faculty, and there is no faculty senate. The university, therefore, lacks faculty governance.
