About the University of Stirling and Scholarship

Stirling stands as a trailblazer in Scottish higher education, being the first new university established in the country in nearly 400 years. The university’s original campus site was chosen from a competitive shortlist, which included locations such as Falkirk, Perth, and Inverness. Lord Robbins, the architect of the Robbins Review recommending the expansion of universities in the UK during the 1960s, became the inaugural chancellor in 1968. A notable addition to the campus was the completion of a house for the university principal, Tom Cottrell, in 1967, designed by architects Morris and Steedman and later listed as category A in 2009.

The Stirling campus is nestled within 330 acres of scenic grounds beneath the Ochil Hills, located 2 miles from the center of Stirling and close to the town of Bridge of Allan. Widely recognized as one of the most beautiful campuses globally, it earned the top spot in the UK for its campus environment in the International Student Barometer 2016. The campus is situated on the historic Airthrey estate, featuring the 18th-century Airthrey Castle designed by Robert Adam, along with the Hermitage Woods, Airthrey Loch, and Airthrey Golf Course. The Andrew Miller Building, a central hub on campus, houses retail and food outlets, including a bookstore, bank, and general store, linking various university facilities and student accommodations.
