This UdeM Exemption Scholarship program’s objective is to assist the brightest minds from across the globe in attending one of the top research institutions in the world for the francophone community. In exchange, by enhancing the cultural richness of the Université de Montréal community, these foreign students will assist the institution in achieving its educational objective.
The UdeM Exemption Scholarship program is intended to assist overseas applicants in their academic endeavors. They may be entitled to a reduction in the tuition costs typically assessed to foreign students beginning in the autumn of 2020. For the winter 2023, summer 2023, fall 2023, and winter 2024 periods, scholarships will still be awarded.
About the University of Montreal
The University of Montreal, sometimes known as UdeM or simply the University of Montreal, is a public research institution that is located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. The main campus of the university is situated on Mount Royal, next to the Outremont Summit (also known as Mount Murray), in the borough of Outremont, in the Côte-des-Neiges district of Côte-des-Neiges-Notre-Dame-de-Grâce. Thirteen faculties, over sixty departments, and two associated schools, the Polytechnique Montréal (School of Engineering, previously the École polytechnique de Montréal), and the HEC Montréal (School of Business), make up the university. In addition to 71 Ph.D. programs, it provides more than 650 graduate and undergraduate programs.
Worths of UdeM Exemption Scholarship
Undergraduate:
- Level A: $12,951.76 a year (which consists of two sessions that are equal to 30 credits), $6,475.88 every session (which is equal to 15 credits), or $431.73 per credit
- Level B: $305.75 for each credit, $3,086.30 for every session (15 credits), or $6,172.60 per year (2 sessions).
- Level C: $2,159.15 (2 sessions, which equates to 30 credits) a year, $1,079.57 every session (15 credits), or $71.97 per credit
Masters:
- Non-research: $3,348.78 every session (15 credits), $10,046.35 per year (3 sessions, equivalent to 45 credits), or $223.25 per credit
- Research: $3,389.89 for each session (equal to 15 credits), $225.99 per credit, or $10,169.68 per year (3 sessions, corresponding to 45 credits)
PhD:
- $21,593.35 annually (3 sessions, equal to 45 credits), $7,197.78 per session, equal to 15 credits, or $479.85 for each credit
UdeM Exemption Scholarship – Eligibility
The following qualifications must be met by candidates to be eligible for the UdeM Exemption Scholarship:
- A foreign student is a must.
- You need a study permit, and neither Canadian citizenship nor permanent residency in Canada is acceptable.
- All applicants must be enrolled full-time at the Université de Montréal throughout their academic careers.

Application Process
- Apply for admission: “Compass” is an interactive checklist that will walk you through the necessary steps to start your application and admissions process off right. Be careful to respect the application deadlines and check the admissions requirements for the study programs you are interested in before starting the application process.
- Follow up on your file to get an admissions offer: You will get your “Student Centre” access codes a few days after submitting your admissions application. You may check the status of your application and download your letter of acceptance on this site.
- Accept the admissions offer to begin the assessment: Applying for an UdeM Exemption Scholarship is optional. To ascertain their eligibility and the amount of their exemption scholarship, new candidates’ files will be reviewed.
- Obtain the award notification and payment: The Université de Montréal will swiftly email you after receiving your admissions offer to let you know how much of a scholarship you are eligible for. This document should be printed and stored safely. For reference in the future, it will be helpful.
