About the University of Bristol and Scholarship

Bristol, England’s red-brick University of Bristol is a research institution affiliated with the Russell Group. Although it may be traced back to a Merchant Venturers’ school founded in 1595 and University College, Bristol, which had been around since 1876, it obtained its royal charter in 1909. Over 200 undergraduate courses are offered by Bristol’s six academic faculties, most of which are located in the Tyndalls Park neighborhood. Each faculty is made up of several schools and departments. In 2021–2022 the university earned £833.1 million overall, of which £186.4 million came from grants and contracts for research. It is Bristol’s largest independent employer.

There are now 44 fellows of the Royal Society, 21 fellows of the Academy of Medical Sciences, 13 members of the British Academy, and 13 colleagues of the Royal Academy of Engineering. Nine Nobel laureates are among the graduates and faculty of Bristol University.

Bristol is a part of the Russell Group of top British research institutions, the Coimbra Group, which spans all of Europe, and the Worldwide Institutions Network, whose chairman from 2005 to 2007 was the university’s former vice-chancellor, Eric Thomas. Additionally, the university is a signatory to the Erasmus Charter and annually sends more than 500 students to partner universities in Europe. For each undergraduate position, there are on average 6.4 (for the sciences faculty) to 13.1 (for the medicine & dentistry faculty) candidates.

The Monica Wills Chapel, which is located on the grounds of Wills Hall, one of the University’s residence halls on the edge of the Downs, offers an Organ Scholarship thanks to the generosity of the Wills Hall Association. The Scholarship is worth £750 each year and is paid in three termly installments by bank transfer. Annually, the Scholarship is given out based only on merit, and the winner’s religious beliefs are irrelevant. It would be beneficial to be familiar with a variety of Christian worship philosophies. By mutual consent, the award may be extended (often for a maximum of two years). Renewal will depend on maintaining good academic achievement and completing the responsibilities indicated below.
