About the Australian National University, ANU College of Science and Scholarship

Australia’s capital city of Canberra is home to the Australian National University (ANU), a public research institution, and a Group of Eight members. Its main Acton campus has various national academies and institutions in addition to seven teaching and research colleges.

The 2022 QS World University Rankings have ANU first in Australia and the Southern Hemisphere, and the Times Higher Education rankings place it second. It is ranked equal to 54th by the 2022 Times Higher Education and equal 27th by the 2022 QS Globe University Rankings among all universities in the globe. The Australian National University’s (ANU) College of Science conducts research, offers instruction, and promotes scientific communication in the fields of physical, biological, mathematics, and environmental sciences. The Australian National Centre for the Public Awareness of Science, the Fenner School of Environment and Society, the Research Schools of Astronomy & Astrophysics, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Sciences, and Physics, and the Mathematical Sciences Institute make up the College.

Six Nobel laureates have graduated from the colleges of ANU, including Professor Brian Schmidt, who is currently the vice chancellor and shared the 2011 Nobel Prize in Physics. The College also features other eminent scholars, such as Graham Farquhar, who is the first Australian to receive the Kyoto Prize in Basic Sciences for his lifetime contributions to the study of photosynthesis and plant biophysics, which have included investigations into the effects of climate change and water-efficient agriculture.

The College offers academic programs and research degrees in the fields of astronomy, astrophysics, biology, biotechnology, chemistry, earth, and marine sciences, environment and sustainability studies, genetics, health science, mathematics, medical science, physics, general science, and science communication to undergraduate, postgraduate, and honors students. ANU also provides a Ph.B. program with honors, which is the only one of its kind in Australia.

The Anjeli Nathan Memorial Scholarship is provided by the ANU College of Science in honor of Anjeli Nathan, a great student who unfortunately perished while engaged in her favorite field study. After completing the degree with honors, the scholarship may be utilized to help the student pursue the Honours Program or get fieldwork experience.
