About the University of New South Wales and Scholarship

Founded in 1949, the University of New South Wales (UNSW), often referred to as UNSW Sydney, stands as a distinguished public research university in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. UNSW is a proud member of the Group of Eight, a coalition of leading research-intensive universities in Australia. With a commitment to excellence in research and education, UNSW has played a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape in Australia and beyond.

As a testament to its global standing, UNSW is a founding member of Universitas 21, a prestigious network comprising research universities from around the world. This affiliation underscores UNSW’s dedication to fostering international collaboration and providing a diverse and enriching academic experience for its students and researchers.

One of the exciting initiatives at UNSW is AUFRANDE, a groundbreaking PhD training program designed to kick-start the research journey for talented individuals. AUFRANDE facilitates a unique opportunity for researchers to embark on their PhD journey in both France and Australia, engaging in industry-supported research projects. The program seeks a highly motivated researcher to spearhead an innovative project co-hosted by the Université de Bordeaux in France and the University of New South Wales in Australia.

The specific position, “Advanced surface modified materials for Li-ion batteries” (DC29), offers candidates the chance to choose from three cutting-edge projects outlined on the AUFRANDE website. The successful candidate will enter into a 36-month employment contract with the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique – Institut de Chimie de la Matière Condensée de Bordeaux (UMR5026) in France. Simultaneously, they will be enrolled as a PhD candidate at both Université de Bordeaux in France and the University of New South Wales in Australia, where they will spend a significant 12-month period.

AUFRANDE places a strong emphasis on international mobility, a pivotal aspect of the program. In addition to the residential year in Australia, the successful candidate will join a cohort of 64 Ph.D. fellows, participating in regular events designed to foster collaboration and the sharing of experiences. This collaborative environment not only builds a strong community but also lays the groundwork for impactful future collaborations and careers, leaving an enduring mark on the landscape of global research.
