About the University Of Oxford and Scholarship

In Oxford, England, there is a coeducational research institution called the University of Oxford. With evidence of instruction dating back to 1096, it is the second-oldest institution currently in operation and the oldest university in the English-speaking world. It has rapidly grown ever since Henry II barred English scholars from studying there in 1167. Some scholars moved to Cambridge in the northeast following tensions between students and Oxford town residents in 1209, where they founded what would become the University of Cambridge. The two historic English institutions are together referred to as Oxbridge and have numerous similarities. 39 semi-autonomous constituent colleges, four permanent private halls, and a variety of academic departments divided into four divisions make up the university.

The Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies is a recognized, autonomous institute by the University of Oxford. It was established in 1985 to further scholarly investigation of Islam and the Islamic world. The Center acts as a focal point for communication between the intellectual communities of Islam and the West. It encourages Oxford University’s multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary study of the Islamic world. Beyond Oxford, a vast network of intellectual connections enhances its capacity.
