About the University of Waikato and Scholarship

The University of Waikato, also known as Te Whare Wānanga o Waikato in Māori, is a renowned public research university situated in Hamilton, New Zealand. Established in 1964, it has made significant contributions to various academic fields, particularly in education, social sciences, management, environmental science, marine and freshwater ecology, engineering, and computer science. The university offers a wide range of degree programs, encompassing health, engineering, computer science, management, Māori and Indigenous Studies, the arts, psychology, social sciences, and education.

A special scholarship opportunity is available for school leavers who plan to commence full-time undergraduate studies at the University of Waikato during A Trimester 2024. This scholarship is designed to provide financial assistance to those in need, and the awarded amount will be directly applied to cover accommodation fees at either Bryant Hall or Student Village.

Bryant Hall, established on land leased from the University of Waikato in 1971, serves as a Hall of Residence. It was originally intended for local students attending the University, offering a supportive residential environment primarily for first-year students. Over the years, it has also accommodated a smaller number of senior undergraduate and graduate students who contribute to tutorial assistance and develop enriching academic, cultural, and social activities within the Hall.

In 2004, Bryant Hall came under the ownership and operation of The University of Waikato. However, the commitment of the D. V. Bryant Trust, which originally established Bryant Hall, to foster academic development opportunities for students in the Waikato region continues through the D.V. Bryant Trust University of Waikato Residential Scholarships. This scholarship program is a testament to the enduring dedication to supporting students in their pursuit of higher education and personal growth.
