The Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship, established in 2021, serves as a tribute to the life of Dorothy Marsden, who held the distinction of being the oldest alumna of The Women’s College until her passing in June 2020 at the remarkable age of 101 years. Dorothy Marsden was an accomplished graduate of the University of Queensland, having completed a Bachelor of Arts Degree with Honours. She was also an engaged member of The Women’s College and actively participated in the Alumni Association of the University of Queensland. This scholarship commemorates her legacy and supports undergraduate students in their academic pursuits.

The Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship is part of the UQ Residential Scholarships scheme. To be considered for this scholarship and other scholarships within this scheme, you only need to submit one application.

Eligibility Criteria for Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship

Candidates are advised to meet the following requirements to be eligible for the Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship at the University of Queensland:

  1. You are an undergraduate student who is or intends to be a resident at The Women’s College.
  2. You are a domestic student in the year of the award.
  3. You are enrolled or intend to enroll in any bachelor program in the year of the award.
  4. You can demonstrate financial hardship.

Selection Standards

The Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria:

  1. Financial Hardship: Your level of financial need will be a significant factor in the selection process. You should be able to demonstrate that you are facing financial difficulties that make it challenging to pursue your undergraduate studies.
  2. Community Service: Your involvement in community service activities and contributions to your community will be considered. This could include volunteer work, engagement in social or humanitarian causes, or other community-related activities.
  3. Demonstrated Leadership: Your leadership qualities and achievements, both within and outside the academic context, will also be taken into account. Leadership can be demonstrated through roles in student organizations, extracurricular activities, or other leadership positions.

Application Procedure for Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship

Interested and eligible candidates for Dorothy Marsden Undergraduate Scholarship should fill out the online application form. The applicant will need:

  • QTAC Reference Number: Your Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) reference number is a unique identifier for your university application. Make sure to include this number on your scholarship application.
