Students from all nationalities can now apply for the Dr. Pirkko Koppinen Scholarship to study in the UK. The scholarship is open to candidates who want to enroll in one or more master’s programs at Royal Holloway, University of London.
About
A constituent institution of the federal University of London, Royal Holloway, University of London (RHUL) was originally established as Royal Holloway and Bedford New institution. There are roughly 10,500 undergraduate and graduate students from more than 100 countries enrolled in its six schools and 21 academic divisions. The campus is situated 19 miles (31 km) west of Egham, Surrey, and close to downtown London.
Thomas Holloway, a Victorian businessman, and philanthropist, created the Egham campus in 1879. As an all-women institution, the Royal Holloway University was formally inaugurated by Queen Victoria in 1886. The institution began accepting male postgraduate students in 1945, and around 100 of the first male undergraduates were enrolled in 1965.
A second previous all-women’s institution in London, Bedford Institution, and Royal Holloway amalgamated in 1985. The combined college was given the name Royal Holloway and Bedford New College (RHBNC), which is still the institution’s legally recognized name as registered under an Act of Parliament. It was included in the University of London in 2022 as a separate university. The Founder’s Building, a Grade I listed red-brick structure based on France’s Château de Chambord in the Loire Valley, dominates the site.
In terms of the proportion of students that entered graduate employment, Royal Holloway was formerly rated second out of 90 institutions in England and Wales. The institution, however, is ranked 77th out of 126 universities in the UK by Complete Institution Guide 2016 because of a decline in graduate employability during 2007–2008, with a graduate potential of just 62.2%. With a graduating prospect of 73.5%, Complete University Guide 2020 reports that this number is beginning to rise once again. The National Student Survey 2014 found that Royal Holloway was in the top 25% of UK institutions for overall satisfaction (89%).
For the MA in Medieval Studies, this grant is open to new full-time students who have Home or International fee status. It is offered as a £12,000 living expense contribution and tuition price reduction (where appropriate).
