The PhD student will be situated at Flinders University’s National Centre for Education and Training on Addiction (NCETA). In the area of alcohol and other drugs (AOD), NCETA is dedicated to acting as a catalyst for change. The ADF, whose expertise in the subject led them to choose the study question, is a co-founder of the PhD fellowship.

This innovative study entails:

  • A review of the literature to comprehend the situational and demographic risk variables that result in behaviors that raise the risk of alcohol-related damage among males.
  • Interviews or surveys to determine what stage of the life course might intervention be most helpful to prevent the occurrence of, or change, risky drinking practices.
  • Statistical analysis of national datasets to understand factors associated with risky drinking among men and patterns over time.

The PhD Enterprise Scholarship also includes an internship of at least 60 full-time equivalent days at the Adelaide office of ADF, which must be agreed to in writing within 18 months of application, started, and finished before the completion of the PhD.
