Eligibility Criteria for Gates Cambridge Scholarships

Candidates are advised to meet the following conditions to be eligible for the Gates Cambridge Scholarships:

  • A national of any other country besides the UK.
  • Applying to enroll in one of the following residential full-time programs of study A one-year postgraduate programme, such as an MPhil, LLM, MASt, Diploma, MBA, or a PhD (a three-year research-only degree), is also an option.
  • A current Cambridge student looking to enroll in a new postgraduate program. For instance, you can apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pursue a PhD while doing an MPhil. However, you cannot apply for a Gates Cambridge Scholarship to pay for the remainder of a degree that you have already begun.
  • Want to apply for a second Gates Cambridge Scholarship despite already being one.
  • You must submit your application before the second international deadline and go through the same departmental shortlisting, ranking, and interviewing steps as all other applicants.

Important Notes: Over 4,000 candidates apply each year for 90 Gates Cambridge Scholarships, making it one of the most competitive scholarships available. The Trust’s selection procedure consists of four stages due to the fierce competition:

  • Departmental ranking: Only academic merit is used to order the very best applicants to each department.
  • Selection – Gates Using the four Gates Cambridge criteria, Cambridge committees evaluate the applications of rated applicants and present a list of candidates for interview.
  • All selected candidates are given a brief interview to see whether they fulfill all four of the Gates Cambridge requirements.
  • Selection: Interview panel chairmen get together to choose the final list of scholars.
  • A strong match between the applicant’s credentials and goals and the Cambridge postgraduate program to which they are applying
