About the University of Exeter and Scholarship
Nestled in the picturesque West Country of England, the University of Exeter stands as a beacon of academic excellence with its main campus located in the historic city of Exeter, Devon. The university traces its roots back to esteemed predecessor institutions—St Luke’s College, Exeter School of Science, Exeter School of Art, and the Camborne School of Mines—established in 1838, 1855, 1863, and 1888, respectively. These venerable institutions joined forces, receiving their royal charter in 1955 to form the University of Exeter. In post-nominals, the university is abbreviated as Exon. (derived from the Latin Exoniensis), a distinguished suffix bestowed upon honorary and academic degrees from the institution.
The University of Exeter prides itself on a rich history and a commitment to fostering educational excellence. As a testament to this commitment, the Hornby Education Trust, affiliated with the university, places a special emphasis on capacity building for English language teaching in low- and middle-income countries. The trust plays a pivotal role in advancing Master’s degree scholarships, specifically designed for teachers and professionals engaged in English language teaching, demonstrating both experience and potential to make a substantial impact in their home countries.
For the September 2024 entry, the University of Exeter, in collaboration with the Hornby Education Trust, offers an exceptional opportunity with up to ten (10) fully funded scholarships for the MEd TESOL Programme. These scholarships aim to attract academically talented individuals with substantial experience in English language teaching, who are not only nationals of but also actively contribute to low- and middle-income countries, as defined in the OECD DAC list (listed here).
